After last week’s postponed games due to snow, the 2nd XI hosted Anchorians and wanted to get 3 points as they near the end of the season.

Darren Body was solid again at the back and was busier than he’d liked to have been, but was reliable as always showing why he is such a key player in the side. Martin Dadd in the centre was keen to build the attacks through the midfield, and trying to find the passes in between.

K Sports were determined to build on a strong start but were finding it hard to break through the strengthened Anchorian’s defence. Howard Goacher and Simon Boniface were working hard to find a gap for the strikers which wasn’t easy on the day.

The persistence paid off and Ben Chadwick picked up the ball on the halfway line, whipped a ball into Kai Wilson, who controlled expertly and sent a perfectly timed ball to onrushing Ben Chadwick looking for the return. He picked it up, beat the defender and slipped the ball under the approaching goalkeeper to take the lead. Excellent play from the pair!

At the halfway point it was a good opportunity to build on what had already been a good half, but needed more to kill off the good Anchorians side. K Sports put the talk into action and found Andy Smith in space between the defence and midfield, and whilst driving at the D he slipped a ball left to Ben Chadwick who was up with play again. He managed to beat the keeper again to get his second of the day. Hard to believe he had never played hockey before based on his excellent performances in his 4 games.

Luke Boniface was finding acres of space on the wings and was working hard with the midfield, which paid off quickly as he found himself at the back post unmarked. He was found by Andy Smith with a cross field pass which was stopped and slotted in on his reverse stick side on his birthday weekend. How best to celebrate for a happy birthday!

Anchorians did manage to find a gap through the defence even after keeping fresh with changes of Joe Dowling, Dave Mcleod and Matt Savage. Aaron Divall kept the comeback at bay with a fine save in the second half. Final result was 3-1 home win, and Ben Chadwick picked up Man of the Match. Next week it’s Sutton Valance away at the very early time of 09:45.
