K Sports were looking to move on from their 8-1 win the previous week with another strong performance to cement their intentions for the season. There was a change in personnel and positions, with some late holidays to accommodate but a full team was ready to go.
K Sports took the early lead, making a spell of pressure count, and a strong push in from Simon Boniface bounced into the path of Gavin Fisher to flick the ball into the corner of the goal on his reverse side. Herne Bay pulled one back as K sports found themselves in a 10 minute lull, which lead just up till half time, when Jamie Carmillet scored on his return from holiday to put the home side back in front.
Mike Newmarch was exceptional in goal, saving the side from at least 3 or 4 opportunities to let a goal in, and this was re-enforced by another solid and commanding performance from Martin Dadd, Darren Body and Andy Stiff. Jay O’Shea made a start in Central Midfield and his tenacity was key leading up to half time to make sure the home side went in with a lead.
As the second half was underway, Herne Bay put more and more pressure on the home team, which resulted in many clearances coming straight back and eventually scoring an equaliser…but K Sports were not going to take this lightly.
They showed tremendous bravery, character and determination to get back in front and secure their second win of the season, and they were successful through captain Andy Smith with a strike front the top of the D.
Richard Bernhard’s contributions to the game were noticed and appreciated by all in his team as they collectively voted him as Man Of the Match. Well Done Richard!
The game finished 3-2 to K-Sports, and it was a well-deserved victory from a very close and tough game.
