K sports 2nd XI had their last game of their season this week and they went into it already crowned Champions with an astronomical goal difference. Sutton Valance, who finished second in the league, were coming out all guns blazing early on with a physicality and determination which was evident that they wanted to get one over K Sports. Darren Body set the tone once again with his work rate at the back, breaking up everything that came forward and supporting Luke Boniface in front of him. Matt Savage was called into action for a short corner midway through the first half as Simon Boniface was off with a well deserved break, and after a small break in play he had the ball at his feet in the D. A strong strike beat the keeper and he lodged his first goal of the season, and gave answer to the question of why our left back was in the opposition D! Andy Stiff was proving once again how important he has been to the side this season, sitting in front of the defense and breaking up opposition attacks, and kick starting the K Sports attacks.
The half continued in the same fashion with strong challenges, but it quickly became obvious why this was happening, as Dom Brown turned on the afterburners again and stormed past the defence and slipped Kai through, but he wasn’t able to find the backboard to extend the lead.
The game continued and threatened to boil over after a mistimed attempt at an aerial hit Jay O’shea in the face, but luckily both teams contained the passions for the rest of the half allowing for more opportunities including a reverse strike from Andy Smith which shaved the crossbar. Martin Dadd showed once again why he has been so important to the team this season with his defensive abilities, and Aaron Divall put in his best performance of the season by far. He produced some incredible saves which kept Sutton Valance out of the game.
The Half time message was clear, K Sports needed to maintain the solidarity as a team and build on this to make sure they maintained their unbeaten record. Ben Chadwick was working tightly with Matt Savage on the left, and being guided through the game from the voice in the middle with Jay O’shea.
Anticipation was key in the second goal as Andy Smith foresaw a back pass, moved in to intercept it and beat a player and slot past the keeper to double the lead. The half went on and there was wave after wave of attacks from K Sports which saw Andy grab another, and then Ben Chadwick pop up and score the side’s 110th goal of the season settling a private agreement with the club chairman and previous captain Mike Newmarch.
Simon Boniface put the icing on an incredible team performance and grabbed a late and final goal after rounding the goalkeeper, which meant K Sports 2nd XI finish the season unbeaten and with a goal difference of +100. Next season will be in Open Division 3 for the team, and they will be looking to press on, but for now they will enjoy the success and celebrations in the off season.
